Buy and Sell at the Senior Center's Annual Summer Parking Lot Sale

Do you need to clean out those closets and garages, or do you just like browsing for bargains? Check out the Davis Senior Center’s Summer Parking Lot Sale, Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Spaces are currently being sold at the Senior Center. The cost for a space is $20.00 and includes two parking stalls. Spaces may be shared, and you may even pick your selling space! The number of spaces is limited, so reserve your space early for this fun event.

Admission is free, and is open to all ages. All buyers and browsers are welcome!

The Davis Senior Center is located at 646 A Street (corner of A & 7th Streets).

Senior Center Hosts Hospice Panel on May 23

The Senior Citizen Commission and the Davis Senior Center will host a Hospice Panel on Thursday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the center, 646 A Street (corner of A & 7th Streets).

Learn about services, what to expect, and much more from local Hospice representatives including Yolo Hospice, Vitas, and Sutter VNA. Light refreshments will be served courtesy of Senior Citizens of Davis, Inc.

Vinyl & Music Fair

The City of Davis, Armadillo Music, and KDVS 90.3FM are presenting their 3rd Vinyl & Music Fair on Sunday June 2, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street in Davis

Event admission and parking is Free to the public. Early birds will be admitted at 8:30 a.m. for a $5.00 fee.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to acquire the vinyl record that you have been looking for or to sell some to make room for more. Everything from vinyl records, CDs, tapes and DVDs will be available for sale. Over 50 tables are available to vendors. The Hotdogger will have food and beverages for sale and browsing music will be provided by KDVS.

Davis Senior Center Hosts Quail Ridge Talk & Walk

Quail Ridge Talk & Walk

Frank Maurer of the Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy (QRWC) will give a presentation about Quail Ridge Reserve on Wednesday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center, 646 A Street. The Reserve is located on a peninsula at the Southern end of Lake Berryessa. Call 757-5696 to sign up for the talk.

The Talk will precede an easy walk on Tuesday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. on scenic hillsides of California with native grasses, shrubs, and wildlife. The walk will be slow and will look at things along the way. The walk will be led by QRWC director Frank Maurer, a zoologist and ecologist. In addition to learning about the wildlife of native habitats of the peninsula, walkers will also learn about the human history of the Berryessa region.

The Summer 2013 Recreation Class Schedule, covering classes and programs offered June through August 2013, is now available.

Important Dates for the Summer 2013 Recreation Class Schedule:

Walk-In and Web registration begins on Tuesday March 19, 2013.
Phone-In registration begins on Monday April 1, 2013.

2013 Recreation Program Scholarship Applications Are Now Being Accepted

Recreation Program Scholarship Applications Are Now Being Accepted

The City of Davis allocates scholarship money each year to low income households to help offset the cost of City Recreation programs. For those who qualify, they will receive 50% of program fees up to their allotted household amount. Because the amount of funding and number of subsidy requests varies, we are not able to provide a specific income cut-off for applications. Families with the lowest incomes will be granted subsidies first.

Applications for scholarships to be used during Summer 2013, Fall 2013, and Winter/Spring 2014 are currently being accepted. The deadline to apply during this “Initial Application” period is February 15, 2014.

To receive the maximum amount of funding, it is best to apply during this initial period. There will be a small portion of funds set aside for applications received after the initial application period and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Scholarship applications are available at the Community Services office, located at 600 A Street, Suite C, or visit our website at http://community-services.cityofdavis.org/fee-subsidy-program

Teen Services Grant Program

The City of Davis is accepting applications for its Teen Services Grant Program. The Teen Services Grant Program allocates funding to a wide variety of programs and services that promote, support, and assist local community organizations in providing creative opportunities for teens to receive mentorship and leadership skills that are founded upon the framework of the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets for youth 12 to 18 years of age.

The deadline for application submission is Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. to the Community Services Office at 600 A Street, Suite C. Organizations must meet funding eligibility criteria and follow funding guidelines. Preliminary recommendations will be presented to the Recreation and Park Commission in November with final recommendations anticipated to go to City Council for final approval in December.

City Offers Pee Wee Basketball Program

City Offers Pee Wee Basketball Program

The City of Davis is currently taking registration for their Pee Wee Basketball Program.

This program is geared towards first time players in First and Second grades. Basic basketball fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun will be emphasized.

Three sessions are offered: Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon (October 13 - November 3, 2012), Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon (November 3 - December 8, 2012) and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (November 3 - December 8, 2012).

All sessions will be held in the Community Gym at Davis Senior High School.

Cost of the program is $55 per child and includes a t-shirt.

Davis Children’s Nutcracker 2012 Applications

This December the City of Davis is pleased to once again present the Davis Children’s Nutcracker. This long-time Davis tradition takes you through the exciting story of a young girl called Clara, who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. As the clock strikes midnight strange things begin to happen. Clara begins shrinking as her beautiful Christmas tree grows high above her. The toys around the tree come to life while the room fills with an army of mice, led by the fierce Mouse King.

The City of Davis invites your child to participate in the annual production. This opportunity is open to all children ages 6 to 12 years old. The City of Davis will be casting 250 children for the 2012 production. Rehearsals begin November 26 and the performances take place December 12 through 16 at the Veterans' Memorial Theatre.

Applications must be submitted to the Community Services office, located at 600 A Street, Suite C, by Friday, September 21, at 5:00 p.m. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Names are drawn by lottery, with preference given to those who were not selected last year. Applicants must be six years old by November 26, 2012.
